A speech-language pathologist is a health professional who screens, assesses, identifies and treats speech, language, voice, fluency (stuttering), swallowing and feeding problems for all age groups.
The bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology is not restricted. Students who are eligible (see Admission Requirements) can register.
This specialized program leads to a Baccalauréat ès sciences de la santé (B.Sc.S.) en orthophonie (Bachelor in Health Sciences - orthophonie). This French-language speech-language pathology program takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying human communication disorders, all the while making connections between the human, social, natural, physical and cognitive sciences.
The goal of this unique program is to train clinicians who are able to conduct thorough analyses of language, speech and voice disorders, including resonance disorders, stuttering, dysphagia, neurological communication disorders, child development disorders and cognitive-linguistic issues in adolescents and adults. After completing this four-year program and a two-year master’s degree, the future speech-language pathologist is prepared to intervene.
A master's degree in the field is required to become a practicing professional in Ontario (caslpo.com), in Canada (oac-sac.ca), and around the world, and is offered at Laurentian University.

This degree in Orthophonie (B.Sc.S.) is the only program of its kind offered in French in Canada. This interdisciplinary training program focuses on both theory and practice in the field of human communication sciences and disorders. During their training, students must complete practical, hands-on tasks in our laboratory.
Since Laurentian University's program is offered only in French, with bilingual clinical education, several cohorts of Francophone and bilingual speech-language pathologists will practice in Northern Ontario and elsewhere in the country, which will in turn improve access to speech pathology services in both official languages.

Relevant graduate studies at Laurentian University
To obtain the title of Speech-Language Pathologist in Ontario, one requires a master's degree. This degree can be completed at Laurentian University (Master's degree in Health Sciences - Orthophonie) or at another university in Canada or abroad. Upon successful completion of the master's, membership with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is mandatory.

- 1 French course at the U/M grade 12 level; 1 English course at the U grade 12 level; 1 biology course at the U grade 11 or 12 level; 3 other courses at the U/M grade 12 level (4 other courses if the biology course is at the grade 11 level)
- Minimum overall average of 70% of the best 6 U/M Grade 12 courses
